the papa and children reunion

We are home!! Griffin, Lucy and I flew home on Thursday afternoon. It was a little wild getting through security with the 2 kids and no stroller, but we did it and it was smooth sailing...or flying, from there. Griffin snacked and looked at books and Lucy slept the whole flight...only 1 1/2 hours, thankfully. We were all so excited to see Bruce at the airport, a lovely reunion. Our time in Michigan was fantastic and so, so special, but it still feels amazing to be home again. I will be posting some of my favorite photos over the next several days until I get my head together. Griffin and Alethia

Vacation

We are leaving for vacation tomorrow. The 4 of us are headed up to Mom and Dikke's house - a 9 hour drive. It is going to be well worth it though! It will give us the chance to connect with 2 moms, a grandma and grandpa, 3 sisters, a brother, a niece, a dad and an uncle....all in one weekend!! Bruce will only stay the weekend and head back to Kentucky on Sunday but the kids and I will be staying in E. Lansing for 2 weeks. My sister Jessica and niece Alethia, who live in Germany, will be staying there also....we cannot wait for the chance to spend alot of time with them. I am excited for Griffin to really get to know his cousin. I won't have a car so there will not be any journeys to the Detroit area - sorry friends!! All 4 of us are coming back to Michigan in August and will be able to do alot more visiting then. I am anticipating a busy couple of weeks taking long walks, crafting, watching the kids play... a schedule that may not allow for much blogging. Hope you are

First time in the Caves

Image
We had such a great time with our friends over the weekend. Chris and Chanley, like us, enjoy a healthy amount of adventure in their lives. On Saturday we packed up the kids, a picnic lunch and hit the road for a scenic 2 hour drive to Cave City, KY. Our first stop was, of course, Dinosaur World. Ever since our first trip there Griffin has been asking when we could take Jake there, so Saturday we made good on that promise. They had the best time running through the trail, identifying the dinosaurs, digging for fossils, the playground...Jake and Griffin are both 4 yr. old experts! After that adventure went so well, we decided to try another one...we headed across the street to the Onyx Cave for a cave tour. Now, only Chanley had been to a cave before but we all had an idea in our mind what it would be like. We pictured a wide mouthed, large, cavernous, dark, damp, cold bat filled dome. This cave was nothing like that. The stairs from below. It was small, cramped, mostly dry, warm spac

We have been having a fantastic time with our friends. Yesterday we went to a baseball game. Our team, the Tradewater Pirates won! The game was followed up with a great fireworks show that the kids really enjoyed, even little Lucy. Today, we had an all-American day filled with playing outside, brats on the grill, cold beers, patriotic music, a long walk, fruit pizza and Griffin leading us all in the pledge of allegiance. America the beautiful, land that I love.

Grandparents!!

Griffin was ecstatic to spend yesterday with his Grandpa and Grandma Huggins. It was an afternoon filled with knights, puzzles and "horsey bites" (a Huggins family tradition.) It is such a treat to spend time with family now that we live so far away! Lucy, on the other hand, was not quite recovered from the day before and definitly not her charming self....hopefully she is feeling better soon!
